New details have emerged in the investigation into the murder of prominent Greek lawyer Stavros Georgiou, with authorities examining evidence about the suspect’s movements before and after the fatal attack.
The 28-year-old suspect is expected to appear before a prosecutor on Thursday.
The case has drawn widespread attention in Greece, as investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the lawyer’s death and the actions taken afterwards by the 28-year-old suspect.
Suspect sought medical treatment after attack
According to information from the investigation, the suspect suffered a broken hand during the violent confrontation with Georgiou. The injury was serious enough that he later went to a hospital for medical attention.
When questioned by doctors about the cause of the fracture, he claimed that he had fallen while riding a skateboard, an explanation investigators believe was an attempt to conceal how the injury occurred.
Laptop sold for €50 after killing
Investigators are also looking into the suspect’s actions following the crime.
According to the evidence collected so far, the 28-year-old left the lawyer’s office after taking money and Georgiou’s laptop. He then reportedly spent the night at a friend’s home.
The following day, he sold the lawyer’s laptop in central Athens for €50.
Investigation into suspect’s background
Police have also reportedly found that the suspect was already known to authorities for previous offences. An arrest warrant had reportedly been pending against him since 2024 in connection with a minor.
From a night out to a fatal confrontation
Based on the information currently available, Georgiou and the suspect had been out with the same group of people before the murder.
After the outing, the lawyer reportedly offered to drive the 28-year-old home. However, according to the suspect’s account given to police, they stopped at Georgiou’s law office before reaching their destination.
The suspect told investigators that an argument broke out there and escalated into a violent confrontation that ended with the lawyer’s death.
Security footage under examination
Authorities are also examining security camera footage that reportedly shows the two men walking together towards the lawyer’s office shortly before the incident.
The footage forms part of the ongoing investigation as police continue to establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the murder.
