A fatal incident at a psychiatric hospital in Athens has left one patient dead and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at the psychiatric hospital in Dafni, a district in western Athens. Authorities said a 57-year-old patient became involved in a violent confrontation with his 46-year-old roommate inside their shared room.

Fatal Altercation Inside Hospital Ward

The dispute reportedly escalated rapidly, with the older patient allegedly attacking the victim and strangling him during the altercation.

Despite the immediate response that followed, the 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident caused shock among hospital staff and other patients at the facility.

Suspect Arrested at the Scene

Police units were dispatched to the hospital shortly after the attack and arrested the 57-year-old suspect inside the room where the incident took place.

The suspect, who has reportedly confessed to the killing, is now in police custody.
