Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis took to social media to promote a new national health program aimed at raising awareness about kidney dysfunction and methods of prevention.
Mitsotakis posted a video on the social platform TikTok, urging citizens to visit the government health portal proliptikes.gov.gr dedicated to medical exams and book an appointment for screening tests.
The program “Prolamvano” (prevent) is the first integrated National Prevention Plan in Greece aimed at the timely diagnosis of the most prevalent chronic diseases.
“Prevention saves lives and every life matters,” Mitsotakis said, encouraging people to undergo preventive medical tests.
The initiative is part of Greece’s broader national strategy to strengthen preventive tests in healthcare and reduce the burden of chronic diseases through early detection.
“Visit proliptikes.gov.gr, choose the preventive screenings you want to undergo and you will find all the instructions you need to proceed. Prevention saves lives and every life matters,” Mitsotakis said.
According to government data, 5.1 million preventive medical screenings have been carried out so far under similar programmes, including nearly 950,000 mammograms, 700,000 gynaecological check-ups, more than 900,000 colorectal cancer screenings, and 2.5 million cardiovascular examinations. In addition, over 4,000 citizens have received free medical care for obesity.
The government says expanding preventive medicine remains a key policy priority, aimed at improving public health outcomes while reducing long-term healthcare costs.
