Two middle schools in northern Greece for juvenile offenders will remain closed until the end of the week due to dozens of positive readings for exposure to the tuberculosis germ, with 35 instances detected out of 124 TB (Mantoux) skin tests conducted.
The two schools are in the Kassaveteia township in Halkidiki prefecture, east of Thessaloniki.
Thirty-four out of the 35 positive TB tests are related to pupils at the schools, with one guard also testing positive.
According to reports, educators at the schools requested immediate measures, given the fact that they teach in other schools.
The positive readings indicate that the individuals have been exposed to the TB germ, and more tests will be required, possibly including an X-ray.
