Shortly before 8 a.m. on Monday, 19 January, the body of Princess Irene arrived at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. The coffin, draped in the Greek flag, was transferred to the Chapel of Saint Eleftherios, where it lay in state for public viewing until 10:30 a.m.

According to a statement from the Press Office of the Greek Royal Family, the funeral service for Princess Irene will be held at noon, followed by her burial at Tatoi. She will be laid to rest beside her parents and her brother, bringing to a close a life deeply intertwined with the history of the Greek royal family.

The first farewell to Princess Irene took place in Spain on Saturday, 17 January, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Saints Andrew and Demetrios in Madrid. A funeral Trisagion was chanted in a private ceremony attended by members of the Spanish and Greek royal families.
