The sailing ban imposed on the ports of Rafina and Lavrio because of gale force winds will be lifted after 4 p.m. today, with ferry services from both ports set to resume on schedule, the Hellenic Coast Guard said.
Eight departures are planned from the two ports, five from Rafina and three from Lavrio, including added sailings and route changes designed to handle the heavier passenger traffic ahead of the Dekapentavgoustos holiday on August 15. The date, which marks the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in the Greek Orthodox calendar, is one of the busiest travel periods of the Greek summer, rivaling Easter as islands and coastal towns fill with vacationers.
Ferry services from the Port of Piraeus are operating normally.
Rafina departures
Once the ban is lifted, the following sailings are scheduled from Rafina:
- 4 p.m., Aikaterini P.: Rafina to Tinos to Mykonos
- 4:15 p.m., Fast Ferries Andros: Rafina to Tinos to Mykonos
- 6 p.m., Superferry: Rafina to Andros
- 6:45 p.m., Andros Queen: Rafina to Tinos to Mykonos
- 7:15 p.m., Andros King: Rafina to Andros
Lavrio departures
From the Port of Lavrio, the following sailings are planned:
- 4 p.m., Superstar: Lavrio to Andros to Tinos to Mykonos
- 4 p.m., Terra Jet 2: Lavrio to Tinos to Mykonos to Paros
- 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, Artemis: Lavrio to Milos
