Authorities in Athens will implement a series of road closures and parking bans on Friday, November 21, 2025, due to events marking Armed Forces Day. The measures will affect several major streets in the city center and will remain in place until the end of the celebrations.

Police announced that both parking and stopping will be prohibited, and traffic will be halted gradually throughout the day in multiple areas. Drivers are urged to avoid the affected roads and follow police instructions to prevent congestion.

Closures Starting at 6:00 a.m.

From 6:00 a.m. until the end of the events, the following central streets will be closed to traffic, with stopping and parking banned:

  • Mitropoleos Street: entire length, including side streets leading to the first parallel road
  • Aiolou Street: between Adrianou Street and Ermou Street
  • Ermou Street: between Aiolou Street and Athinas Street

These areas are among the busiest pedestrian and commercial zones in Athens, making the traffic restrictions particularly significant for morning commuters and businesses.

Additional Restrictions Starting at 11:20 a.m.

A second phase of closures will go into effect at 11:20 a.m., extending to major avenues and key access routes near central landmarks:

  • Vasilissis Amalias Avenue: entire length
  • Syngrou Avenue: between Athanasiou Diakou Street and Dionysiou Areopagitou Street
  • Athanasiou Diakou Street: full length, in the direction toward Vasilissis Amalias Avenue

These roads connect central Athens with major transportation corridors, meaning traffic delays are expected in surrounding areas.

Police Advise Drivers to Avoid the Area

The Hellenic Police (ELAS) are urging drivers to avoid the affected network during the specified hours and to follow the instructions of traffic officers directing vehicles around the closures.

Authorities emphasize that the measures are necessary to ensure public safety and the smooth coordination of the Armed Forces Day events, which traditionally draw significant attendance.

Normal traffic flow will resume once all festivities have concluded.
