Greece’s Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will suspend regular classes on Wednesday, 3 December, marking a nationwide day dedicated to inclusion and disability awareness. The initiative coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and aims to strengthen understanding and acceptance within the school community.
According to the ministry, the day will focus on promoting equal access to education for students with disabilities, combating stereotypes and encouraging respect for student diversity. Schools across both primary and secondary education are invited to organize activities such as collaborative games, sports, artistic projects and awareness workshops, often in cooperation with special education services.
Educational material from the Institute of Educational Policy and Greece’s Educational Television service will be available to support teachers in creating discussions and activities centered on inclusion and acceptance.
Sharing Best Practices
Schools are also encouraged to showcase successful inclusion projects implemented during the year. These presentations may highlight co-teaching programmes, creative initiatives or other innovative approaches that support the participation of students with disabilities.
Central Event at the Ministry
A main event will take place at the Ministry of Education in Athens on 3 December from 10:00 to 12:00, featuring student voices and presentations of inclusion-focused work. Schools can participate either in person or online.
Those attending in person may present musical, theatrical or dance performances, short films or other awareness-raising projects. Schools joining remotely can submit digital material created during their inclusion activities.

Eligible submissions include:
- student artwork in any style or medium,
- short films of up to five minutes with cleared music rights,
- literary texts or poems,

The ministry emphasizes that all submitted material must meet the required technical specifications to be accepted.
