Retail stores across Greece will open on four Sundays from late November through December 2025, offering consumers additional shopping days ahead of the Christmas holidays. The decision follows the country’s legal framework for seasonal exceptions and the official schedule of discount periods.

The confirmed dates when shops will operate are:

  • 30 November 2025
  • 14 December 2025
  • 21 December 2025
  • 28 December 2025

The schedule aligns with major sales events, including Black Friday on 28 November and Cyber Monday on 1 December, which traditionally drive increased foot traffic and online purchases.

What the Current Regulations Allow

According to the Athens Traders Association, Greek law permits stores to open on specific Sundays throughout the year, including:

  • The first and second Sundays of the winter sales
  • The first Sunday of the summer sales
  • The two Sundays before Christmas
  • The last Sunday of every year
  • Palm Sunday
  • The Sunday following the last Friday of November

If any of these dates fall on an official public holiday, the optional opening is shifted to the next available Sunday.
