Greece will see a marked deterioration in weather conditions on Tuesday, March 31, with rain and localized strong thunderstorms affecting large parts of the country.
Rain will begin in the early mornings throughout western Greece and the Ionian islands, as well as in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and parts of the eastern Aegean islands. Showers will also develop in mountainous areas of Crete. As the day progresses, the unsettled weather will spread into central regions, including Thessaly, central and eastern Macedonia, and parts of central Greece and Evia.
Thunderstorms are expected mainly in western areas, central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and islands in the northern and northeastern Aegean. Some of these storms may be intense, with a risk of hail in the Ionian islands, western mainland, eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean. Light snowfall is possible in mountainous areas of central Greece.
Temperatures will drop slightly across the country. In western Macedonia, temperatures will range from 0 to 14°C, while the rest of Macedonia and Thrace will see 1 to 17°C. Epirus will range from 1 to 13°C, central mainland regions from 1 to 18°C, and the Peloponnese from 2 to 16°C. The Ionian islands will see 7 to 15°C, northern and northeastern Aegean islands 7 to 16°C, and the rest of the Aegean and Crete 5 to 16°C.
Winds in the Aegean will blow from the south to southwest at 4 to 5 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea, winds will start westerly at 4 to 5 Beaufort before turning southerly and strengthening up to 6 Beaufort later in the day.
In the capital, Athens, expect partly cloudy skies with a chance of localized rain in western areas during the afternoon. Winds will shift from light westerly to southerly, reaching up to 5 Beaufort, with temperatures between 6 and 17°C.
In Thessaloniki, cloudy conditions will dominate, with intermittent rain developing in the afternoon. Winds will start from the north to northeast at 2 to 3 Beaufort, later turning southerly to southeasterly at similar intensity. Temperatures will range from 7 to 18°C.
