Strong winds caused significant damage to businesses along Marathon Beach, Greece, with local authorities reporting the event may have involved a tornado-like gust, according to Deputy Mayor of Marathon, Evangelos Kyparissis.

Awnings and sunshades were blown down, while various items from nearby shops were scattered onto the streets, creating hazards for pedestrians and vehicles.

As a result, roads from Agios Panteleimonas Square to the cafes, including Goura Street, have been closed until the damage is cleared and electricity is restored.

Emergency crews from the Fire Service, the Public Power Corporation (HEDNO), and the Municipal Civil Protection unit are on site, working to secure the area and restore services.
