A shocking family tragedy unfolded in Trikala, Greece, when an 18-year-old male confessed to killing his mother at their home in the village of Flamouli.
The young man contacted the police at 2:30 p.m., reportedly saying: “I killed my mother, come arrest me.” Upon arrival, law enforcement and paramedics found him at the scene and confirmed that the 57-year-old woman had died.
The Incident
According to the teen, he and his mother were watching television together when he got up to use the bathroom. He then returned to the living room, took a towel, and strangled her from behind while she was seated on the couch.
Authorities sent the body to the Larissa Forensic Department, where initial examinations support the teen’s account, confirming asphyxiation marks around her neck consistent with strangulation.
Family Background and Motive
Neighbors describe the teen as polite and well-behaved, but noted he rarely visited his mother. His parents had divorced years earlier, and he lived with his father. He also has a sister residing alone in Volos.
The teen reportedly suffered bullying at school due to his parents’ separation. Neighbors reported frequent arguments between mother and son whenever he visited, with the young man claiming disagreements over her behavior and actions.
In a statement to the police, he said he killed his mother because she mentally and physically abused him, though he has no documented psychiatric history. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the home environment and motives behind the act.
Ongoing Investigation
The Greek police are examining photographic evidence and witness statements to reconstruct the events leading to the tragic death. The sister of the victim and local residents have been interviewed, while forensic analysis continues to confirm the cause of death.
