A routine police check in the northern Athens suburb of Nea Erythraia escalated into a dangerous chase on the afternoon of 25 November, when officers from the Kifisia security unit approached two young men near a local sports hall. As police moved in to inspect them, the pair rushed into a rented white car and sped off.
According to information cited in the report, the 19-year-old behind the wheel is the son of a well-known political figure. Officers pursued the vehicle through residential streets using lights and sirens, but the driver continued at high speed, performing hazardous manoeuvres and ignoring stop signs—actions that put pedestrians and other motorists at risk.
The chase ended when both occupants abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot. They were quickly located and arrested. During the arrest, the young driver reportedly refused to comply with police instructions and is said to have told officers, “Do you know who I am?” before eventually being detained.
Both individuals now face charges of disobedience and dangerous driving. Additional traffic violations were also issued to the driver.
