About 400 runners gathered on Sunday morning for the 3rd Tempi Memory Run, a symbolic race held in central Greece to honor the 57 victims of the Tempi railway disaster.

The event, now in its third consecutive year, included races of 30, 15 and 5 kilometers. The race was organized by the Falanis Runners Club in cooperation with the sports website Sportofrunning, with the consent of the victims’ families and relatives. It serves as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the Feb. 28, 2023 rail tragedy, one of the deadliest in Greece’s history.

Race route ended at Tempi crash site

The starting line was set in the courtyard of the Zachareos factory, located at the 2nd kilometer of the Larissa–Sykourio road.

Participants finished the race at the “ground zero” site of the Tempi train crash.

At the finish line, runners and parents of the victims laid flowers and attended a memorial prayer service honoring the 57 people who died in the disaster.

Emotion marked the entire event, as participants paid tribute to the victims and expressed solidarity with their families.

Motorcycle memorial ride from Malgara to Tempi

A symbolic motorcycle memorial ride was also held Sunday morning, traveling from Malgara to Tempi.

About 400 motorcycles and 750 riders took part in the ride to honor the victims of the rail disaster. The event was organized for the second consecutive year.

Organizers said the ride aimed to send a message of support and solidarity to the families of the 57 victims.

“We unite our motorcycles, our souls and our hearts for Tempi,” organizers said, noting that three years have passed since the tragedy.
