A 48-year-old police officer in Thessaloniki is being held at a military hospital while facing allegations of rape, filming a woman without her consent, threats and insults, according to Greek police and judicial sources.
The case was referred to the Greek justice system after a 51-year-old woman, who uses a wheelchair and is reportedly a former partner of the officer, stated that he subjected her to sexual acts against her will.
According to police, the woman told authorities that during the previous month, the officer forced her to engage in sexual acts without her consent on four occasions. She also alleged that he filmed her at various times during their relationship and made threats and insults against her.
Separate proceedings for offenses
The 48-year-old was arrested under Greece’s expedited “caught in the act” procedure in connection with misdemeanors involving disturbance of domestic peace and domestic threats, which reportedly occurred in the preceding 24 hours.
He was referred to the Thessaloniki Single-Member Misdemeanor Court to stand trial on those charges.
A separate case file has been opened concerning the allegations being prosecuted as serious criminal offenses, including rape, sexual abuse and violation of personal data.
As part of that investigation, prosecutors have requested a technical examination of the officer’s cellphone. The findings are expected to be added to the case file.
Officer held at military hospital
The officer is currently being hospitalized under detention at the 424 General Military Hospital in Thessaloniki, citing medical problems.
Because of his hospitalization, his defense is expected to request a postponement of the trial concerning the misdemeanor charges.
