The death toll on roads in the greater Athens-Piraeus area is unfortunately on the rise, with three separate fatal accidents occurring within a span of a few hours in the areas of Nea Filadelfeia, Porto Rafti and Peristeri districts. Three deaths and one injury were reported by the state-run broadcaster, ERT.

The initial accident took place yesterday at 20:30 on Dekelia avenue in the northwest Athens district of Nea Philadelphia, when a 49-year-old Indian national riding a motorcycle collided head on with a mass transit bus. The motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A few hours later, at approximately 23:30, in the east Attica coastal resort of Porto Rafti, at the 33.5 km mark of a regional roadway, a 55-year-old woman died after the car she was driving ran into a lighting pole under unspecified conditions. Initially conscious, she was transported to a hospital but died a few hours later.

The third incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the west Athens district of Peristeri, involving a collision between two motorcycles, injuring both drivers, who were subsequently taken to the hospital.
However, shortly before dawn of the two cyclists died. Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
