A serious traffic accident early Thursday morning on Kifissos Avenue in Athens has resulted in one fatality and significant traffic congestion. The crash occurred near the junction with the Athens-Corinth National Highway and Iera Odos.

According to reports, a truck lost control while traveling uphill, breaking through the bridge barriers and colliding with another truck heading toward Piraeus. The driver of the first truck was pronounced dead after being rescued by firefighters and taken to the General State Hospital of Nikaia.

The second truck driver was injured but is reported to be in stable condition. Both vehicles remain at the scene, causing a major traffic jam that stretches approximately 16 kilometers from Kifisia to Iera Odos.

Traffic authorities have closed two lanes temporarily and are working to remove the vehicles and restore flow, though significant delays are expected throughout the morning.
