Authorities in Greece have issued a high wildfire risk warning for Tuesday, August 5, as several regions across the country face elevated danger due to weather conditions.
Areas on High Alert
The regions flagged as high risk include both mainland and island territories. These are:
- Attica, including the greater Athens area
- Evia, Aetolia-Acarnania, and Boeotia
- Kythira
- Halkidiki, Mount Athos, Kavala, Rodopi, and Evros
- Argolis, Corinthia, Messinia, and Laconia
- Rhodes, the Sporades, Skyros, Thasos, Samothraki, and Lemnos
- Fthiotis and Magnesia
- Achaea, Arcadia, Elis, and Xanthi
- Several Ionian Islands
The Civil Protection Agency urges residents and visitors in these regions to remain vigilant, avoid outdoor activities that could ignite fires, and report any signs of smoke or flames immediately.
According to the Fire Risk Forecast Map from the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), large parts of the country are now on yellow alert (Risk Category 3), signaling a high possibility of wildfires.
