An end-of-season wildfire erupted at the Kounoupi site in Argolida prefecture of southern Greece on Sunday morning, with 44 fire-fighters dispatched to the scene.
Fourteen vehicles were being used in efforts to extinguish the fire, while six water-dropping aircraft were operating at the scene.
A warning was sent to local residents in the morning via SMS.
The Kounoupi site is located six kilometers east of the coastal resort of Porto Heli, near the settlement of Aghios Aimilianos.
This year’s wildfire season was generally less destructive than previous recent years, with the most serious fires and destruction recorded outside the western port city of Patras.
Dropping temperatures and the first expected rains of the autumn have significantly reduced the risk this month.
