Thessaloniki’s main metro line has resumed full operations three days earlier than planned, following the successful completion of a major testing phase that included trials on the new extension toward the coastal district of Kalamaria.
Authorities announced the restart after a meeting led by Greece’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, along with senior officials from the state-owned metro developer and the operator responsible for running and maintaining the system. The tests, which covered both train performance and system integration across the unified network, were deemed sufficiently advanced to allow the line to reopen.
Although testing will continue in the coming weeks, officials confirmed that the metro will operate on a full schedule throughout the holiday period to accommodate increased passenger demand.
