In 2023, Greece discarded more than 2 million tons of food (2,091,442 tons), a figure that has remained almost unchanged since 2020.
Analysis across 52 countries shows that restaurants and hotels account for a significant 28% of food waste.
“We can’t avoid producing food — the population is growing. But we can reduce waste. That’s our responsibility as chefs,” says Alexandros Tsiotinis, chef and owner of CTC.
The study also points to relatively low food waste, with 59% of households admitting to discarding some food and 41% claiming none.
