The long-awaited opening aims to bring an end to years of hazardous travel along the existing route, which has been plagued by accidents.

According to the minister, Olympia Odos, a modern motorway that connects Athens with Patras and the Peloponnese region, now covers all its energy needs through renewable sources.

The new motorway, scheduled to be fully completed by November this year, will shorten travel times to Western Greece.
