Interior Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis says 1,000 traffic cameras will be deployed next summer with electronic fines enforced by police, while new laws will target illegal firearms and punish anyone brandishing weapons at public events
According to the Greek Highway Code, the use of mobile phones while driving is strictly prohibited.
Officials say drivers will receive instant alerts for violations and can file electronic appeals. The first cameras are expected on some roads by the end of 2025, with wider installation across Greece scheduled for 2026 as part of a digital traffic monitoring initiative
Penalties will now be scaled according to the level of danger posed. For the most serious offenses, fines can reach 4,000 euros, along with license suspensions lasting up to eight years.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of automated digital enforcement starting in September 2025
Scheduled between 9am and 3pm, the strike will culminate with a march towards the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport
The Hellenic police have announced the details of the traffic restrictions in the center of Athens, which will be reintroduced Monday, October 14
Some 1,000 cameras will soon be monitoring the roads in Attica prefecture 24/7 with violations and fines sent to drivers via text message
