The president of the Greek Hotels Chamber (HOTREC), Alexandros Vassilikos, held a working meeting in Brussels with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
According to the announcement, the discussion focused on priorities for building a competitive and fair hospitality ecosystem in Europe. It emphasized that small and medium-sized, largely family-run businesses—the backbone of Europe’s hospitality sector—need a regulatory environment that supports entrepreneurship, reduces administrative burdens, and tackles unfair competition.
Three issues received particular attention: ensuring that major digital platforms such as Google and Booking comply with the Digital Markets Act so they do not exploit their dominant position through practices that harm European hospitality businesses, further regulation of short-term rentals, and the promotion of policies to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.
Following the meeting, Vassilikos said he stressed to Metsola, whom he thanked for the cooperation, that hospitality businesses are custodians of the European way of life, strengthen employment, and create value for society. He added that the sector stands ready to deepen its collaboration with the European Parliament to build a stronger, more sustainable, and more competitive hospitality industry across Europe.
