A specialized workshop held in Prague, last week, offered Czech tourism executives an in-depth introduction to Athens and the wider Attica region as a standalone city break destination.

The event was organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) office for Poland and the Czech Republic, in partnership with Sky Express, the airline that operates direct flights between Prague and the Greek capital. Around 60 Czech travel agents attended.

The destination was presented by Dimitris Vassiliadis, head of the GNTO office for Poland and the Czech Republic and coordinator of the workshop.

A Comprehensive Guide to Athens

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the wide range of experiences Athens and its surrounding region offer year-round, as well as the modern infrastructure supporting tourism.

Czech travel professionals were provided with digital materials from the Region of Attica, practical information, and the full printed travel guide from the GNTO. Plans for a familiarization trip (fam trip) to Athens at the end of Oct. for local industry representatives were also discussed. The event featured a welcome address by the Greek Ambassador to Prague, Dinos Konstantinou.

Growing Czech Interest in Greece

Post-pandemic reports on Czech tourism and European Commission data highlight a steady increase in outbound travel and spending by Czech tourists, with Greece consistently ranking among the most popular Mediterranean destinations.

In 2024, Greece welcomed a total of 650,000 Czech tourists. Czech visitors typically come for summer holidays, averaging around 10 nights per trip, with spending per person ranging between 700 and 1,200 euros, depending on the season and accommodation standards.
