The island of Lipsi has been recognized as one of the five best destinations worldwide for reducing stress and fostering genuine traveler rejuvenation, according to a recent study by the German travel blog Rebeccas Welt.

Renowned for its focus on “slow tourism,” wellness, health, nature-based activities, sustainability, and local culture, Rebeccas Welt sent its editor on a global journey to identify destinations that combine these elements to help visitors lower stress levels and adopt a healthier lifestyle that can extend beyond their holidays.

Away from crowded tourist spots, some destinations remind travelers why they journey—to experience nature, connect with cultures, breathe deeply, and engage with themselves. Five destinations for 2026 offer precisely that: sustainable, inspiring, and rejuvenating experiences that create lasting moments of happiness.

The full list includes New Zealand, Nijmegen in the Netherlands, the St. Olaf trail in Sweden, Lipsi, and Lapland.

Impressed by the island’s charm, the list’s creator visited Lipsi following an invitation from the local municipality. In her article, she describes: “Lipsi is a small island in the southern Aegean with warm, welcoming people, making it the perfect place to slow down. Here, you won’t find artificial luxuries, haste, or noise. Instead, you will discover authentic Mediterranean charm combined with remarkable sustainability—ingredients ideal for enjoying summer in both peak and off-peak seasons.”

Tourism on Lipsi continues to grow, with Sept. arrivals up 25% from last year. “Our goal is for Lipsi to offer a way of life that visitors take with them and return to experience again,” said Mayor Fotis Mangos.
