Greek police have arrested four people in connection with the killing of a 42-year-old man at a luxury chalet in the mountain town of Arachova earlier this month. Authorities announced on Saturday that the suspects—three Greek nationals and one person of former Soviet-Union origin—were taken into custody after coordinated operations.
According to police, the murder on 1 November was a contract killing worth more than €300,000, making it one of the most costly hired hits in recent years. The victim, described by investigators as linked to organised crime circles, was shot multiple times with Kalashnikov rifles.
The attack unfolded as the man stepped onto the balcony of the villa where he was staying with friends. The gunmen, who had positioned themselves below and were familiar with the property’s layout, opened fire as soon as he appeared outside, killing him instantly.
During searches of the suspects’ hideouts, officers seized weapons, cash, and gold coins, among other items. Police said the evidence supports their conclusion that the killing has now been fully solved.
The victim had previously faced charges—along with his brother—in two separate high-profile murder cases, including the killing of a journalist and the shooting of a boxer in Athens, but he had been acquitted in court.
Authorities continue to examine whether additional individuals were involved in planning or facilitating the Arachova attack.
