A surprise twist on Wednesday in the ongoing investigation of a double murder at popular southwest Greece campsite in early October witnessed the nephew of the slain business owner arrested as the alleged instigator of what authorities believe is a contract killing.
Another man, the owner of a coffee shop in central Athens where one of the two younger men charged with being the shooter was employed, was also arrested.
A third warrant was issued for a third suspect accused of complicity in the double murder, which took place at the Finikounda campsite near the city of Kalamata, in extreme southwest Greece.
According to reports, the 37-year-old nephew of the campsite’s owner, 68, was arrested for planning and finding a gunman to kill his uncle. A long-time employee of the business was also gunned down in the same incident.
In his first testimony, the 37-year-old nephew, who initially was considered as the only eyewitness to the crime, said his first cellphone call after the shooting was to the owner of the Kolonaki coffeeshop via his companion’s phone.
