A new round of infringements of Athens FIR rules and even violations of national airspace by a total of four Turkish fighter planes were reported in the central and southeastern Aegean on Tuesday.
According to an announcement by Greece general staff, two formations (2X2) comprised of F-16s were identified as intruders. Additionally, a Turkish UAV was also recorded as infringing on Athens FIR rules and violating Greek airspace.
No engagements were reported when the aircraft were identified and escorted out of the area by Greek warplanes, in line with international rules and Athens’ standing policy.
Similar instances have been rare over the last two years, although not entirely absent.
