Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis on Thursday reiterated that Athens has made representations with the Israeli government, beforehand and on the same day, to fully ensure the safety of Greek citizens on board the vessels of the “Global Sumud Flotilla” attempting to break an Israeli blockade of Gaza.
The minister spoke at the 11th International Conference of Maritime Law, which convened on the subject of “Maritime Risks, Revisited”.
Speaking earlier in the day, Gerapetritis cited “…39 ships of the flotilla are already sailing toward the port of Ashdod.”

“All those on board are in good health, and no violence has occurred. The circumstances under which the vessels were escorted to Israel have not yet been fully clarified. What is certain is that, in cooperation with the other countries whose citizens are part of the mission, we will do everything in our power to guarantee their safety—and we have already taken steps to this end,” he said.
