Greek authorities have arrested a 45-year-old domestic worker accused of systematically stealing from her employers, primarily elderly individuals and people with disabilities. The total estimated financial gain from her alleged crimes exceeds €23,000.

The suspect, a foreign national with prior convictions for theft and forgery totaling three years and eight months in prison, was apprehended on Monday in the Attica region by officers from the Organized Crime Division. Investigators seized watches, rings, jewelry, a folding knife, a small quantity of drugs, and a forged residence permit.

Method of Operation

Police investigations revealed that the suspect had been targeting victims since at least September 2024. She identified potential victims through online and print advertisements seeking domestic help. Using phone numbers registered under fictitious identities, she posed as an interested applicant to gain access to homes.

To convince her victims, she presented a forged residence permit with her photograph. Once employed, she reportedly stole cash, jewelry, and official documents—often during her first or second day on the job—and then discarded the temporary phone number she had used.

Authorities noted that she frequently targeted individuals with severe physical or cognitive disabilities, aware that they were less likely to detect or prevent her actions.

Evidence Seized

Searches of the suspect’s residences and possessions uncovered:

  • A folding knife
  • Multiple watches, rings, and jewelry
  • Money transfer cards and vouchers
  • 0.3 grams of what is believed to be methamphetamine
  • A forged residence permit
  • Mobile phones

Police have linked her to at least four confirmed thefts, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of her criminal activity. The suspect has been formally charged with aggravated theft, forgery, violation of residency restrictions, and offenses related to drugs and weapons, and has been handed over to the relevant prosecutorial authority.
