A visit to Athens by French President Emmanuel Macron on April 24–25 has been confirmed, immediately following an informal summit to be held in Cyprus.

According to reports out of the Greek capital on Tuesday, the main focus of the visit will be the renewal of a bilateral strategic partnership agreement on defense and security. A first copy was signed in September 2021 between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Macron during former’s visit to Paris.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss developments in the Middle East and the role of Greece and France, energy security, and closer coordination between Athens and Paris toward a stronger and more autonomous European defense.
