NATO is deploying an additional U.S. Patriot missile defense system to southern Turkey, reinforcing security at the strategically important Incirlik Air Base in Adana, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

The move comes as part of broader efforts to bolster air defenses amid rising missile threats linked to the ongoing Iran war. The Patriot system, commissioned by Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany, will be stationed alongside an existing Spanish-operated system already deployed in the region.

Strategic Importance of Incirlik Base

Adana province hosts the Incirlik Air Base, a key military hub where personnel from the United States, Qatar, Spain, Poland, and Turkey are stationed. The new deployment is aimed at strengthening protection for both military assets and civilians.

“In addition to national-level measures taken to ensure the security of our airspace and our citizens, another Patriot system… is being deployed in Adana,” the ministry said in a weekly briefing.

Broader NATO Response

Turkey, which has NATO’s second-largest army and borders Iran, has seen a series of defensive reinforcements in recent days. Last week, the alliance deployed another Patriot system to the southeastern province of Malatya, near a NATO radar base.

Despite its growing defense industry, Turkey still relies on NATO support for comprehensive air defense coverage. Since the conflict began, Ankara says all
