U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday, according to Reuters, that he had been briefed on the outline of a potential deal with Iran but was still awaiting its precise wording, while cautioning that military strikes could resume if Tehran “misbehaves.”
Speaking to reporters before boarding a flight to Miami from West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said officials had shared the “concept of the deal” and were expected to provide full details soon. However, he expressed doubt that the proposal would meet U.S. expectations, adding on social media that Iran had not paid a sufficient price for its actions.
A senior Iranian official said Tehran had put forward a proposal—so far rejected by Washington—that would reopen shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and lift the U.S. blockade, while postponing negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
When asked whether the United States might restart strikes on Iran, Trump declined to give a definitive answer but left the door open. “If they misbehave, if they do something bad, we’ll see,” he said. “It’s a possibility that could happen.”
Trump has consistently maintained that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon. He reiterated on Friday that he was dissatisfied with the latest Iranian offer, while Iran’s foreign minister signaled that Tehran remains open to diplomacy if the United States shifts its approach.
