The phenomenon was recorded as firefighters and volunteers continued operations under extreme conditions, with active fire fronts producing dangerous and intense weather-related effects.
A similar phenomenon had also been observed in Domvrena, Boeotia, in previous days following the passage of a destructive wildfire.
Fire tornadoes are considered a particularly dangerous phenomenon that can occur during large wildfires, when intense flames, ash and hot air masses combine.
They form when the extreme heat generated by a fire interacts with strong, rotating winds, creating powerful swirling columns that can increase risks for firefighting personnel operating in the area.
