A news item that “turned heads” on Thursday, namely, a report that Stefanos Tsitsipas was clocked as driving 210 kilometers an hour on an Athens tollway late last month, took another turn in the evening when an attorney representing the international tennis star denied that his client was behind the wheel.
Tsitsipas’ attorney, Thanasis Papathanasiou, claimed that the latter was a passenger in the late-model Lotus SUV during the incident in question.
He continued: “…another person (was driving), to whom he had lent the car – something that happens often, while Tsitsipas himself was in the passenger seat.” The attorney also maintained that the “issue has now been resolved,” he was quoted as telling tennisnews.
Earlier press reports nevertheless said authorities have issued a hefty fine for the owner of the supercar, i.e. Tsitsipas. The vehicle was identified and clocked by surveillance systems on the state-of-the-art highway that leads to and from the Athens International Airport.
