Mount Parnitha, overlooking the greater Athens area from the northwest, emerged covered in snow on Friday morning due to an early morning cold front passing through the area. Nevertheless, no significant problems.

According to updates from the shelters operating atop and around Mt. Parnitha, the main winding road remained open, with temperatures as low as -3°C. Hikers attempting to reach the shelters on foot will find the paths snow-free, according to reports. Operating hours for the shelters are as follows: the Bafi Shelter is open until 21:00 and the Flambouri Shelter is open from 10:00 to 21:00.

The funicular connecting the Mont Parnes casino atop the mountain also remained opened, at least on Friday afternoon.

The weather forecast calls for milder temperatures over the weekend, albeit with a repeat of the “muddy rain” phenomenon in parts of southern Greece.
