An impressive and rare, for east Mediterranean waters waterspout was filmed just off the eastern Aegean island of Samos on Monday, with the meteorological phenomenon appearing off Karlovasi harbor.
The large waterspout that passed through verdant Samos and was videotaped and uploaded by the samos24.gr media outlet on its Facebook page.
Inclement weather conditions, part of a storm given the name “Erminio”, prevailed in the northeast Aegean on Monday, with intense instability and low temperatures in the upper layers of the atmosphere, favoring the formation of such extreme phenomenon.
Similar waterspouts have also been seen in the area in the past, mainly during periods of unstable weather accompanied by local storms.
