Places To See, Things To Do, Food To Eat This Weekend

Here are a few recommendations for anyone looking to get out of the house!

What is there to say other than TGIT? Friday is a whisper away, and so is the fun-packed weekend. Let’s see what the Athenian to-do list may include for some of us.

Something to see: Freudian Cinema Adventure At Trianon Cinema

Do you have a friend who really enjoys psychology? Or the father of modern psychology Sigmund Freud? Trianon cinema in collaboration with Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society have a series of film screenings revolving around narcissism titled ‘Cinema with Freud’. The film curation is followed up with a Q&A session discussing key elements or traits displayed by narcissists.

This week’s film: Mephisto by Istvan Szabo (146′, 1981)

Screening starts at 17:00

Screening of National Theatre’s “All My Sons” At The Megaron Concert Hall

Forgive me, I am bending the rules slightly. This is a Tuesday event but it’s too good not to share.

You don’t need me to explain to you why the National Theatre is worth watching. Beyond that, visiting the Megaron Concert Hall is a wonderful experience. Grand hallways, high ceilings, it’s something out of a fairytale. “All My Sons” is a play based on the namesake book by Arthur Miller. If that name rings a bell, it’s because another famous work of Miller’s is “Death of a Salesman” (which you’re bound to have seen and/or read at some point in your life).

The plot: Joe Keller, a businessman who knowingly shipped defective aircraft parts during WWII, causing 21 pilots’ deaths. While his partner went to prison, Joe avoided blame. The play explores guilt, familial obligation, and the corruption of the American Dream.

Screening on April 28, 2026

Something to do: Cat Festival At OSY Old Depot

Cat yoga, karaoke, and a bunch of cats and kittens looking to get adopted! I am shocked I have not known of this event sooner, since this is its second year running and I adore cats. Gazi truly hosts some of the most fun events for Athenians and tourists to enjoy, and this feline frenzy is no different. The Cat Festival, created by Cat Café Athens and sponsors, contains a very full weekend schedule suited for any and every pet lover. Cat crafts such as making magnets and painting ceramic kitties are just a couple of the tens of things on the agenda.

Expect to see me there this weekend, probably cradling a couple cats and singing “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”.

Something to eat: Koita In Glyfada

A rather curious eatery that piqued my interest through a TikTok I stumbled upon on Monday morning. This “dining bar” is dark, mysterious and features futuristic decor. Perfectly golden cinnamon rolls, as well as some really good looking pasta dishes, just yearn to be tasted. Arguably the stand-out dessert, aesthetically speaking, is their soft serve ice cream in a chrome champagne coupe! Truly, Koita (aptly named ‘look’) is a feast for the eyes as well as the rest of the senses.

There was a part of me that hesitated sharing this place before going there myself, but it seems quite ideal for a weekend date out on the Athenian outskirts.

Cupola Restaurant In Pangrati

An excellent choice for those with carb-heavy cravings this week. Cupola is an Italian restaurant with what I consider to be the best tiramisu you can find in Athens. There are a few dishes I have tried that were true highlights, one of which is their tagliatelle with mushrooms and ham. My aversion to mushrooms did not stop me from heavily and unashamedly sampling my date’s plate, and regretting that I didn’t pick the option.

In terms of pizza, I would point you to the Nduja. It’s a little eclectic and different when you look at the toppings alone. Take a chance, you’ll thank me later.

Something extra: Karaoke Nights At Ghost House Karaoke Bar

Once you’re done with your spritzes and after-dinner cocktails, head down to Psyrri for some classic karaoke fun! Dance your heart out, get a little less serious and a little more groovy.
