Μake us preferred on Google Nikos Androulakis, responding to a question from Dimitris Terzis about the wiretapping scandal, stressed that the case will only close “when everyone who, in 2021–2022, had the idea of building a deep state within the country is brought before Justice,” and pledged to do everything he can to make clear that Justice is not a tool to be played with.
Speaking to in.gr about the scandal, following a lawsuit from a serving senior EYP (National Intelligence Service) official that has renewed espionage allegations, the PASOK leader made clear that the case will only be resolved once everyone involved in the 2021–2022 wiretapping plans is held accountable.
The PASOK president emphasized that he personally would do everything possible to ensure that Justice, for which people in Greece have made sacrifices, “is not a game in their hands.”
Asked by in.gr whether he would propose referring Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the Special Court should evidence emerge implicating him, given that EYP falls under his oversight, Androulakis noted that “when responsibilities arise for any citizen of the country, whether a businessperson or a politician, these are investigated” by the justice system.
Recalling how the wiretapping scandal came to light, the PASOK leader explained that “this troubling deep-state case was revealed in July 2022 after I was briefed by European authorities. I began a legal battle, the first victory of which was the Council of State ruling that found the Tsiaras law unconstitutional, and the second was the ruling by the Athens Single-Member Court of First Instance that convicted the private individuals behind Predator,” Androulakis said, adding: “and now I am awaiting the ruling from the European Court of Human Rights, where I have filed a case against the government for failing to implement the Council of State’s decision” that had ruled in his favor.
“Once I receive the ruling I’m expecting, you will see my next steps,” he said, questioning whether there is any similar case where the country’s highest court issues a ruling and the government simply refuses to implement it.
Androulakis also called on other political figures who were placed under surveillance through Predator spyware to follow his lead and pursue legal action.
“I’m puzzled as to why political figures — including some with high ambitions, ministers and others — haven’t followed my path and taken legal action. I can’t understand how these people want to play a political role while failing to pursue justice themselves,” the PASOK president stated pointedly.
