Greece’s regions were prominently featured in the latest Taste Atlas list of the 100 best places to eat in the world, with five, in fact, in the Top 10.
In first and second place on the list went to two well-known regions in Italy, Campania and Emilia-Romagna, with 4.47 and 4.45 out of a possible five stars. The latter are renowned for their pizzas and various spaghetti dishes.
Crete follows in third place with 4.42, with Taste Atlas citing dishes such as the rusk-based salad dakos, orange pie, caltsounia and a type of “parallel roasting” of meats.
Sicily, with its cannoli and parmesan-based dishes, follows in fourth place.
Other regions of Greece making it onto the Top 100 are Macedonia (fifth place), the Cyclades islands (sixth), the Peloponnese (eighth) and the North Aegean (tenth). Thessaly, the Ionian Islands, the Sporades Islands and Laconia prefecture, by itself within the Peloponnese, are also in the top 100.
