The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, submitted his resignation to Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Friday, Jan. 17.
According to sources his decision to resign stems from personal reasons, with reports suggesting that Mitsotakis was informed of his intentions several weeks ago, fully respecting the reasons that led him to this decision.
The trilateral meeting between Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus on Jan. 8 in Cairo, as well as the Greece-Saudi Arabia High Cooperation Council, during which Fragogiannis played an active role in organizing investment and business meetings, postponed the submission of his resignation. Fragogiannis’ presence in the meetings was considered necessary for the completion of these projects.
From his position Fragogiannis has been responsible for economic diplomacy and the country’s outward orientation for five and a half years.
Before assuming his duties as deputy minister, he was the Development Manager of the Chipita Group, contributing significantly to the further growth and development of the Group’s international operations.
Having successfully handled development projects he gained invaluable experience in negotiating with organizations in countries where he has overseen many investments.
According to reports, his position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be filled by New Democracy’s MP from Serres and the party’s Secretary for International Relations, Tasos Chatzivasileiou.
