Kostis Hatzidakis, Vice President of the Greek government and the New Democracy party, has been elected Vice President of the European People’s Party (EPP) during the party’s congress held in Valencia. Hatzidakis secured 328 votes in the election, earning him a place among the party’s leadership. According to available information, the newly elected vice presidents also include Orpo, Tajani, McAllister, Muresan, Halicki, Suica, Brunner, McGuinness, and Rangel.

Following his election as EPP vice president, Hatzidakis expressed his gratitude on social media to those who supported him, emphasizing that, given the EPP’s status as the largest political force in the European Union, his new role provides both himself and New Democracy with the opportunity to engage more actively in EU decision-making processes in Brussels, ultimately benefiting Greece.

Hatzidakis posted on his Facebook page, “I welcome my election as Vice President of the European People’s Party with deep emotion—not only because it marks a closer reconnection with Brussels after 18 years. I would like to thank Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Vangelis Meimarakis, the Members of the European Parliament, and all my colleagues in the New Democracy delegation for their support. I am also grateful to the many delegates of the European People’s Party who, through my election, honored New Democracy and Greece.”
