Ruling New Democracy (ND) party maintains a strong lead of 12.4 percentage points in terms of voters’ preferences over its closest rival, as reflected in a nationwide poll conducted by the firm GPO and unveiled on a primetime Athens channel’s newscast on Thursday.
Specifically, center-right ND picks up 24.7%, down one percentage point compared to the previous poll in June by the same firm, but at the same level as a September poll, after a series of tax breaks were announced at the time.
Socialist/social democrat PASOK is at 12.3%, up from 11.2% in mid-September, while the right-of-center Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) party is in third place with 9.8%.
Another three parties pool above 3%, the threshold of valid votes in a general election necessary for representation in Parliament.
The Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom) party recorded a drop of 4.5 percentage points and is in fourth place along with the Communist Party, at7.9%. Leftist SYRIZA follows with 5.2%.
The percentage of respondents who were declared as “undecided” reached 16.2%.
Incumbent Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to be considered the most suitable for the premier’s post, with 27.8% of respondents favoring him. He is followed in a distant second place by PASOK’s Nikos Androulakis with 10.4%.
