Ruling New Democracy (ND) continues to field a commanding lead over its political rivals, according to results of the most recent opinion poll this week, although a majority of respondents are still unsatisfied with the center-right party’s performance in various sectors.

Specifically, 25.7% of respondents expressed a preference for ND, with the nearest rival, Zoe Konstantopoulou’s Course of Freedom (Plefsi Eleftherias) party being 13 percentage points behind. The former edges PASOK for third place, 12.6% to 12.4% for the latter. The right-wing Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) party garners 9.8% in the specific poll, followed by the Communist Party (KKE) with 7.9% and leftist SYRIZA with 5.8%.

The poll was conducted by the GPO firm and presented on the prime-time newscast of Star Channel.

Rising cost of living and the crime rate are the primary concerns of polled respondents, with most of the latter considering that the ND is not doing enough to combat these problems.

Concerns over healthcare, at 12.7%, and shedding light on the Tempi rail disaster, 11.6%, are also high among citizens’ concerns.

Queried over who is best suited for the prime minister’s post, incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis remains first, with 29.3% of respondents favoring him. Second place goes to the answer “no one”, 25.3%, with PASOK president Nikos Androulakis a distant third with 9.3%, marginally ahead of Konstantopoulou, 9.2%.
