Greece’s Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis welcomed his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan in Athens for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, with a strong focus on economic cooperation and investment.
The meeting will center on expanding collaboration between the two countries, particularly in trade and investment opportunities, as both sides seek to deepen economic engagement.
Focus on economy and investment
Officials explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on attracting investments and promoting Greece as a competitive destination for international business.
The talks build on recent diplomatic momentum following the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Singapore in November. During that trip, Mitsotakis promoted Greece’s economic progress and highlighted opportunities across both traditional and emerging sectors.
Global issues and maritime priorities
Beyond economic ties, the two foreign ministers also discussed international developments, reflecting the shared interest of both countries in safeguarding freedom of navigation and upholding international law.
These issues are of particular importance to Greece and Singapore, both major maritime nations with strategic interests in global shipping routes.
EU–ASEAN relations in spotlight
The agenda also included discussions on relations between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as the broader geopolitical landscape.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Greece and Singapore, adding symbolic weight to the meeting.
Technology and digital governance cooperation
Athens is seeking to deepen cooperation with Singapore in areas such as digital governance and the application of artificial intelligence in public administration—fields in which Singapore is widely regarded as a global leader.
Following expanded talks between the two delegations at Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers delivered joint statements to the press.
