Ruling New Democracy (ND) fields a 13%-point lead over its nearest rival, which now appears to the Plefsi Eleftherias (Course of Freedom) party founded and led by former Parliament president Zoe Konstantopoulou, in the latest opinion poll results to emerge this week.

The survey was conducted by the Real Poll firm and commissioned by the news site Protagon.

The outspoken Konstantopoulou and her anti-establishment and left-leaning party have overcome socialist/social democrat PASOK in several recent opinion polls.

Center-right ND picks up 31.9% in extrapolated results in this poll, compared to 18.9% for the Plefsi Eleftherias party. PASOK is in third place with 12.9%, followed by a handful of Parliament-represented parties pooling single digit support.

In terms of respondents’ direct preference, 27.7% picked ND, to 14.1% for Konstantopoulou’s party, which has gained traction over the past several months on the back of its almost single-minded emphasis on the 2023 Tempi rail disaster.

Asked over an apparent weakness by opposition parties to catch up with ruling ND, a large majority of respondents (63.5%) cited a lack of leadership qualities in current party heads; 44.2% referred to a lack of proposals by the opposition.
