The Hellenic Navy this week took delivery of the FDI-class frigate “Kimon” at the Lorient shipyard in France, with shipbuilder Naval Group releasing a video of the occasion.
The “Belharra” type warship completed its sea trials and subsequently hoisted the Greek flag last Thursday, in the presence of Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and the country’s top military leadership.
Based on the latest information, the new frigate is expected to arrive in Greek waters in the first day of the new year, with a welcoming ceremony planned.
Based on current defense ministry planning, the navy is set to acquire four such FDI frigates from the same French shipyard, as well as at least two Bergamini-class frigates from Italy by the beginning of the next decade.
