The United States has praised Greek authorities for their role in dismantling a major international drug trafficking network, following a large-scale operation that intercepted cocaine shipments destined for Europe.

In a written statement, US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle conveyed the congratulations of former US President Donald Trump for the successful takedown of the criminal organization, which had been transporting cocaine from Latin America through maritime routes. The case has drawn widespread attention in Greece, where the alleged ringleader has been dubbed the “Greek Escobar” by local media.

Guilfoyle expressed what she described as “deep gratitude” to the Hellenic Police for their persistent efforts to break the chain of drug trafficking. She emphasized that the seizures and arrests announced represent a significant victory in the ongoing fight against the international narcotics trade and serve as a warning to criminal networks operating across borders. In her statement, the US ambassador also acknowledged the contribution of several international partners, including European border and coast guard authorities, the French Navy and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). She highlighted the importance of close coordination and meaningful intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies.

“On behalf of President Trump and the entire United States government, I express my deep gratitude to the Hellenic Police, the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, the French Navy, and of course, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), for their tireless efforts to break the chain of drug trafficking and enhance security at our borders and on our streets. The long-standing cooperation of the DEA with corresponding law enforcement authorities in Greece and around the world is based on close coordination and substantial information exchange. This latest seizure is proof that these efforts are bearing fruit and that we will never stop bringing drug traffickers to justice.”
