The RoboHeads student team from the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Thessaly won gold at the World Robotics Championship, marking a significant international achievement for Greece’s academic community. The team took first place in the University AlpineBot category at the RoboRAVE International World Championship 2026.

According to an announcement from the University of Thessaly, the team from the Next-Generation Digital Systems Applications Laboratory (NG-DSA Lab) stood out among numerous international entries. The competition took place on August 11 and 12, 2026, at the Osaka International Convention Center in Japan.

This world title is the biggest achievement to date for the RoboHeads and confirms their steady rise in the field of robotics.

In 2025, the team had taken first place in the Panhellenic RoboRAVE Greece Competition, and that same year won bronze (third place) at the RoboRAVE International World Championship in Beijing.

Within a single year, the RoboHeads went from third to first place at the world championship, confirming the high level of knowledge, technical training, and teamwork among the team’s members.
